ESPACE RIQUET - BULLFIGHTING MUSEUM

In the 16th century, the Dominicans built a convent and a church of vast proportions on the site of a former hospital.

The convent was partly destroyed during the Revolution and replaced by houses, in the middle of which remains a part of the old church which will later house the archaeological and ethnographic collections of the Musée du Vieux Biterrois.

In 1991, it became a place for contemporary art exhibitions called "Espace Riquet".

Since 2015, it has housed the Musée Taurin and the collections of the Union Taurine Biterroise, including the 40 etchings from the series La Tauromaquia by Goya.

On the first floor, a vestige of the convent church remains: a ceiling painted on wood, executed in the Spanish style of the 17th century, representing scenes from the life of Saint Dominic.
